Complementary approaches

The recommendations compiled here provide evidence-based guidance on complementary and naturopathic therapies for rheumatic diseases. They were developed by the DGRh’s Commission on Complementary Therapies and Nutrition, which takes an interdisciplinary approach to the scientific evaluation of such approaches. The goal is to transparently classify commonly used therapies in terms of their benefits, risks, and available data, thereby creating a sound foundation for counseling and treatment decisions. The content is intended for both physicians and patients and supports informed, patient-centered care. The English versions of the recommendations regarding herbal medicine were added in September 2026.
